Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The student attempts to cover the main trends in the graph, noting figures for copper, nickel, and zinc across the months of 2014. However, the response lacks a clear overview, which is essential for a Band 6 or above in Task 1. Furthermore, the descriptions of monthly fluctuations are often inaccurate, highly conversational, and difficult to follow (e.g., describing drops as 'loss' or stating incorrectly that all three metals had a loss in June). The attempt to compare the metals is superficial, and the data is frequently misreported. This places the response in the lower bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text suffers from severe structural issues. It is written as a continuous, rambling block with virtually no correct punctuation or sentence boundaries (using commas and run-on conjunctions like 'and' repeatedly). Paragraphing is chaotic, with irregular breaks that do not serve logical progression. Cohesive devices are either missing or repetitive and inappropriate ('First of all we can talk about...', 'And next metal is about...'). There is no clear logical progression or overview of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic, highly repetitive, and conversational ('so much decreased', 'price same', 'full up'). There are numerous word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text (e.g., 'cost is equal lightly difference', 'there is loss in the month'). The student attempts to use terms related to data trends, but these are handled inadequately and impede clear communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is extremely weak. The response consists almost entirely of run-on sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions ('and', 'but') without proper punctuation or capitalization. There is a complete lack of complex structures handled accurately. Basic subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are frequently violated (e.g., 'the copper price is 2 and compared to the frebery the price is lightly decreased'). Frequent errors obscure the meaning in multiple places.
