Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover the main features of the graph showing the average monthly price changes for copper, nickel, and zinc in 2014. However, there are notable inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the claim that 'during july to september all metals remained at same value' is factually incorrect according to the graph, as nickel and zinc show negative changes during this period, while copper remains positive or steady. The overview is somewhat confusing and imprecise ('Nickel accounted at highest and after the fluctuation ended up its lower'). While the response addresses the prompt and attempts comparisons, the factual misinterpretations of the visual data pull the score down to Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, beginning with an introduction followed by an overview and body details. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by confusing statements and mechanical transitions. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, such as 'Furthermore, nickel represented the highest value at begining and at the end of the year it remained lowest at 1%.whereas, metal copper remained same...'. Referencing is also unclear in places, making it difficult to follow the relationships between ideas and data points. Paragraphing is attempted but lacks sufficient internal cohesion. This aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited and repetitive range of vocabulary, with frequent spelling errors ('avarage', 'zonc', 'dominent', 'drametically', 'occunted', 'begining') and incorrect word forms ('price moved drastically in all year', 'ended up its lower'). Less common lexical items are attempted but misused, leading to awkward phrasing that occasionally impedes communication (e.g., 'copper price increased at 1% followed by zinc and nickel'). Vocabulary control is weak, fitting the Band 5.0 level where noticeable errors cause difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There is a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are frequently faulty. Punctuation and spacing errors are widespread throughout the text (e.g., missing spaces after periods, comma splices, and incorrect capitalization). Grammatical errors such as 'nickel remained dominent at arount 6%than fall drametically', 'it raised', and 'metal copper remained same' occur frequently and often cause difficulty for the reader. These issues reflect the Band 5.0 descriptor profile for grammar.
