Student answer (Band 4.0)

With the assistance of this graph, we summarise the information of average monthly changes in the prices of three metals during 2014.

The main summarisation of copper, nickel and zinic are, in starting of year all the prices decline downword and in middle we saw a whole dump in market, the prices just incrases and decreases every month and in ending we saw these prices increases.

The price of copper price decreased from january to may then it stabled for one month and then it increased from june to december. Nickel prices started decreasing from first day , the decreasing rate of nickel was -2% and it stoped in the middle of year and then it started increasing, in the end of year, the rates of nickel increased 2%. The price of zinc is stable in whole year, there achived small ups and down in whole year.

In comparision, the rates of zinic was high and nickel strugled with very bed time and it achived very bad outcomes.Zinic faced the small ups and down in whole year and the rate of zinic was same in starting and terminating of year

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the information shown in the graph regarding copper, nickel, and zinc prices in 2014. However, the data interpretation is largely inaccurate and fails to properly report the main features. For example, the student writes that 'in starting of year all the prices decline', which contradicts the graph where nickel started at 6% and copper at 2%. Furthermore, the descriptions of the trends are vague, repetitive, and contain significant factual misreadings of the provided visual data, such as claiming zinc prices were stable or that nickel stopped in the middle of the year and had a rate of -2%. Because the ideas are underdeveloped and the data is inaccurately reported, this meets the criteria for Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response is divided into brief paragraphs, but the overall organization lacks a clear, logical progression. Sentences within paragraphs are disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is extremely weak and mechanical, relying heavily on simple connectors like 'then', 'in the end', and 'in comparision'. Additionally, referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between ideas. For instance, transitional phrases do not effectively link the overview to the body paragraphs, and the conclusion lacks coherence. This level of organization and cohesive management corresponds to a Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student repeats simple words and phrases multiple times throughout the response, such as 'whole year', 'ups and down', 'prices', and 'increased/decreased'. There are also numerous spelling and word-choice errors, including 'zinic' instead of zinc, 'downword', 'incrases', 'stabled', 'stoped', 'strugled', and 'bed time'. These lexical inadequacies and frequent spelling errors often strain the reader's understanding and place the response firmly in the Band 4.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and frequently faulty sentence structures. There is a persistent lack of control over basic grammatical rules, including subject-verb agreement ('the price of copper price decreased', 'the rate of zinic was same'), tense consistency, and punctuation. Run-on sentences and comma splices are common, such as 'Nickel prices started decreasing from first day , the decreasing rate of nickel was -2% and it stoped...'. Due to the high frequency of grammatical errors that regularly distort meaning, this performance aligns with Band 4.0.
