Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response covers all three metals presented in the graph and attempts to report their trends over the year 2014. However, there are notable inaccuracies in reading the data. For instance, the student states that 'nickel and copper value declined from the start', whereas the graph clearly shows copper starting positively and fluctuating. Furthermore, the overview is rather simplistic and partially misrepresents the initial trends. While the student attempts to trace the monthly trajectory of each metal, the lack of a clear, accurate summary of the main features keeps this criterion at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs for the specific details. However, the progression within the body paragraphs becomes difficult to follow due to run-on sentences and a lack of clear segmentation. Transitions such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used incorrectly, as they are meant to contrast two opposing viewpoints or sides of an argument rather than separate different data series in a chart. Cohesive devices within sentences are repetitive, leading to a mechanical feel. Paragraphing is attempted, but overall cohesion is faulty.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'montly' instead of monthly, 'feburary' instead of February, and 'falled' instead of fell. The student also misuses terms like 'all time low' and struggles to describe trends precisely, relying on phrases like 'stayed same' or 'faced a serious fall'. While the range is minimally adequate to communicate some data points, frequent lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes restrict the score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an attempt to use complex sentence structures, but these often result in grammatical errors and run-on sentences, such as in the long third and fourth paragraphs. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The given line graph illustrate'), and prepositions (e.g., 'in month of january'). Punctuation is also weak, with multiple clauses strung together without proper full stops or conjunctions. The range of structures is limited and frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader.
