Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, coming in at only 125 words, which impacts the overall task achievement and completeness of the report. While the student attempts to provide an overview and mentions some key trends, such as the high starting point of nickel and its subsequent drop, the information is disjointed and lacks a fully developed summary. Several data points are inaccurate or poorly communicated, such as stating a drop of '9 points' for nickel or vague descriptions like 'in copper and zinc has equal fluctuation'. Furthermore, the response misses several key comparisons between the three metals across the year. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The organization of the response is extremely weak. The text is divided into three very brief paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is difficult to follow. The student uses basic cohesive devices like 'overall', 'moreover', and 'furthermore', but these are often misused or placed awkwardly. Referencing is frequently unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where sentences run together without proper punctuation or logical transitions (e.g., 'then the a rising fluctation seen in contrast copper and copper and zinc are having competiton'). Paragraphing is insufficient to structure the response logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The lexical range is very limited and inadequate for an Academic Task 1 response. The student repeatedly uses basic vocabulary and experiences severe word-choice errors, such as 'monthly alter' instead of 'monthly change', 'metal' instead of 'metals', and 'competiton' instead of 'competition'. There are also frequent spelling errors, such as 'touchs', 'fluctation', and 'approximately'. Uncommon lexical items are absent, and the vocabulary used fails to describe visual data with precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is severely restricted. The response consists of a mix of poorly constructed simple sentences and faulty complex structures. There are numerous basic grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'categories are copper', 'copper and zinc has equal fluctuation'), missing articles, and incorrect prepositions. Punctuation is largely neglected, with run-on sentences that lack appropriate periods or commas. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader.
