Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by attempting to summarise the main features and trends of the three metals shown in the graph. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, although some of the trends described are inaccurate when compared directly to the visual data, such as claiming zinc finished at the highest among all three or that copper and nickel followed the opposite trend. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence at the end with 'afterwhich it too', leaving the description of zinc unresolved and the final months unreported. Ideas are limited and under-developed, and the selection of data lacks adequate support for all parts of the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation evident through the use of introductory and transitional phrases such as 'In general', 'looking into the details', and 'Moving further', but there is no clear overall progression due to the incomplete ending and abrupt transitions. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, and referencing is occasionally unclear. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final truncated thought disrupts the structural flow of the text, making the overall arrangement feel disjointed and lacking in cohesive control.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'fluctuations', 'trajactory', and 'surged up', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'trajactory', 'strinking', 'throughtout', and 'it tooks'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips occur frequently throughout the response, occasionally causing some difficulty for the reader and preventing the lexical score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with verb forms and tenses, such as 'the it tooks a dip' and 'it tooks a momentum', as well as missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and awkward punctuation before commas and periods. Complex sentences are attempted, but they are frequently faulty in construction. Frequent errors across simple and complex forms restrict the grammatical performance significantly.
