Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting an overview and reporting the main features and trends of the three metals throughout 2014. Key data points from the chart are identified, such as nickel starting at 6% and dropping to -3% in June, and zinc ending at 2%. However, some parts of the response are more fully developed than others, and the overview contains inaccuracies regarding the overall trajectory of nickel, stating it showed a decrease throughout the year when it actually recovered to positive values by December. Furthermore, some data descriptions are slightly vague or generalized, which prevents the response from achieving a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, overview paragraph, and detailed body paragraphs. Information is logically sequenced by grouping trends together and using time markers such as initially and by the end of the year. Cohesive devices are employed, although referencing and linking are at times somewhat mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overall trends from the specific monthly details, fully meeting the requirements of the lower band while showing some of the organizational clarity characteristic of the next band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive terms like accounted, dropped dramatically, and fluctuation. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, including chnage, decresed, littel, and dramaticaly, alongside minor word choice slips. These lexical errors and inaccuracies do not impede communication and remain at a level typical of an adequate, functional vocabulary range, but they prevent the writing from achieving higher precision and flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures successfully in sentences like which dropped dramaticaly to -3% in june. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles, punctuation slips around commas like in ,approximately 1.5%, and minor preposition issues, but these errors rarely impede communication. The majority of simple structures are accurate, and the grammatical control is solid enough to ensure the intended meaning is clear to the reader.
