Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making comparisons among the three metals throughout 2014. An overview is provided, noting the differing overall trends for nickel, zinc, and copper. However, some aspects of the response are under-developed or less fully explained. For example, while the starting points and major shifts are mentioned, some specific figures and months are slightly imprecise or lack full elaboration. The selection of data is generally relevant and accurate according to the provided graph, satisfying the requirements for this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression from an introduction to an overview and body paragraphs detailing specific data points. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, overview, and individual metal analyses. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. The use of referencing and cohesive devices could be smoother; phrases like 'In compares with' and repetitive connectors create some disjointedness. The overarching structure is clear enough to guide the reader through the data, but referencing relationships between sentences require better integration to reach a higher level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items related to data trends such as 'dramatic fall', 'flucated', and 'experiences'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'alteration' instead of 'change', 'revals' instead of 'reveals', 'flucates', and 'slows climbs'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect limitations in precision and word formation. To improve, the student needs to pay closer attention to exact lexical choices, collocations, and correct spelling of standard graphical terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There is a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms attempted within the response. A variety of structures are deployed to report trends, but there are some recurring errors in grammar, articles, and prepositions, such as 'in the January month' and 'at arounds1.5% prices'. Punctuation is also occasionally inconsistent with missing spaces after commas and conjunctions. Nevertheless, the errors are not overly frequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended meaning without severe difficulty. Greater control over complex sentence patterns and grammatical accuracy is needed for further advancement.
