Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 100 words. Furthermore, the writing is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence. Task achievement is severely limited because the student misinterprets the data significantly, confusing the starting figures and trends for the three metals; for instance, stating that Copper started at 6% when that value actually belonged to Nickel, and confusing the labels ('Copper, Nikel and Zinc'). While there is a weak attempt at an overview, key features are not adequately reported or supported due to the truncated nature of the response and major factual inaccuracies.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some basic organization with a rudimentary introduction and an attempt at an overview, but there is no clear overall progression because the text cuts off prematurely. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as the abrupt transitions between sentences ('Overall,it is evident...', 'Another noticeable feature...', 'At the begining of the period...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the extreme brevity and unfinished body paragraphs prevent a logical flow or effective sequencing of information throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, containing frequent spelling errors such as 'Nikel', 'Zince', 'meaured', 'similer', 'begining', 'fall' instead of 'fell', 'rise' instead of 'rising', and 'wast'. While there are some attempts to use vocabulary relevant to data trends (such as 'fluctuated', 'dramatically', 'average monthly change'), these are undermined by spelling mistakes and inaccurate data reporting. The restricted lexical range and noticeable errors cause some difficulty and strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside flawed attempts at complex ones. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('average monthly price of Nikel drop' instead of 'dropped'), incorrect verb tenses ('price of Copper stood at 6% and then fall dramatically and reached'), and punctuation issues such as missing spaces after commas. These persistent errors in grammar and the unfinished structural framework make the text difficult to read and comprehend in places.
