Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the three metals and include some relevant figures, such as nickel reaching about 6% in January and falling to around -3% in June. However, the response only partially reports the main features, and the overview is unclear and sometimes inaccurate: the metals did not all “gradually decrease,” since each recovered towards the end of the year. Some details are also misread. For example, copper ends at about 1.5%, but it does not rise steadily after the first six months; nickel is around -1% from July to September, not unchanged at one level from January to September. To improve, give a clear overview of the contrasting patterns and select accurate key turning points for each metal.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of the metals, so there is some basic organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the account jumps between months and series, and several links are unclear. For instance, the nickel sentence beginning “whereas from january to september” does not clearly connect to the preceding information, while “in october climbed to 1%” has no explicit subject. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “In contrast,” and “Consequently” are frequent but do not always show the relationship between ideas accurately. Organise the body by describing each metal’s main movement in chronological order, and use fewer, more precise transitions and clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of trend vocabulary, including “declined dramatically,” “increased significantly,” and “stable,” which is appropriate for describing a graph. However, the usable range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning hard to interpret. Examples include “average monthly alter,” “lowest portion,” “it consist on same percentage,” and “slowly rose to -1.5%,” although the zinc line is approximately stable around -0.5% from July to September. Spelling errors such as “catagories,” “Nikel,” “secound,” and “gradulaay” are also noticeable. Build a reliable set of trend phrases and check spelling and whether each verb accurately describes the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to combine ideas using subordinate clauses and contrast markers, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the account difficult to follow. For example, “all three catagories gradually decreased … while Nickel was the highest” has unclear sentence structure and punctuation, and “in october climbed to 1%” lacks a grammatical subject. Other problems include “from march to april it consist on same percentage” and inconsistent capitalisation and sentence boundaries. Use complete sentences with an explicit subject and a correctly formed verb, such as “Nickel fell to 1% in March and remained at that level in April.” Check tense consistency, articles, and punctuation when joining clauses.
