Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and attempt an overview, then describe the sharp fall in nickel and the later recovery of all three metals. These are relevant features. However, the overview is unclear and includes inaccurate trends: copper did not rise until June or fall in December; it was negative in May and June, then ended higher at 1.5%. The opening comparison also misstates January figures: nickel was about 6%, copper 2%, and zinc 1%, rather than copper and nickel rising by 1% and 2%. Several details are vague, such as “similar fluctuations,” and the account does not clearly compare the metals across the year. Select the main peaks, troughs and shared movements, and report them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs describing periods of the year. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “From June to December” help signal a change in time. However, progression is not consistently clear because the account jumps between metals and months, and some links are difficult to follow. For example, “From January the price difference with previous month” does not clearly identify which metal or comparison is being discussed. The overview’s contrast between zinc and nickel is also hard to interpret. Organise the details by clear stages—early-year changes, mid-year lows and year-end recovery—and use explicit references to each metal.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “fluctuations,” “downfall,” “recovered” and “parallel,” and you attempt to describe changes in direction. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “noted fluctuations same,” “major recovered commodities” and “huge recovered.” There are also repeated spelling errors, including “fluctualtion,” “differnce,” “privious” and “octobor.” Use standard terms for data movement, such as “rose,” “fell,” “reached a low” and “recovered,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish a rise in a monthly percentage change from a rise in the metal’s price overall.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas in longer sentences, for example by using “while” and “also,” but the structures are often faulty and make relationships between figures difficult to understand. Examples include “Overall, Zinc and Nickel noted fluctuations same” and “From June to December, the major recovered commodities was Nickel.” Subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence construction need attention; “the price difference with previous month” is also not formed as a clear grammatical clause. Tense and comparison patterns are inconsistent, as in “Copper and Nickel price rose 1 and 2 percentage respectively.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then connect them with clear clauses, for example: “Nickel fell to -3% in June, while copper stood at -0.5%.”
