Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify all three metals and include several relevant figures, such as nickel’s January rise to about 6% and its June fall to around -3%. However, the response only partly summarises the main features: the overview is vague (“the comparison between them”) and does not clearly describe the broad pattern of early gains, mid-year declines and late-year recovery. Some details are inaccurate: copper’s highest monthly change was about 2% in January, not 3% in February, and zinc’s lowest point was about -1% in June, rather than -0.5% in May and June. The claim that copper fell to -1% in June and October also misreports the chart. Select the key highs, lows and overall trends more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction, uses a separate overview-like paragraph, and groups several observations by metal. However, progression is not consistently clear. The overview says only that the graph shows a “comparison,” while the final paragraph introduces a mid-year pattern after the metal-by-metal details without clearly linking the two. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Thirdly” are repetitive and make the report read like a list; “In addition” does not clearly signal the relationship between the final observations and the earlier points. Use a concise overview followed by paragraphs comparing the metals across time, with clear references such as “By contrast” and “Towards the end of the year.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “average monthly change,” “negative,” “falling,” and “drastic change,” so the reader can generally understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, including “higher price rate change,” “lowest price rate changed,” and “mid range of month.” Repetition of “price rate” and “change” also makes comparisons imprecise. Spelling errors such as “comparsion,” “feburary,” “continuosly,” and “janurary” are noticeable and can distract the reader. Build a more precise set of terms for describing data, such as “percentage change,” “peak,” “trough,” “declined,” and “recovered,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the reader can usually follow the main points. However, the longer constructions are often faulty, as in “the lowest price rate changed in 2 month continuosly in month of may and june,” where the sentence structure and relationships between ideas are unclear. There are also recurring problems with articles, plurals, agreement and punctuation: “three metal,” “in the given below graph,” and “Overall, It showed” are examples. Sentence openings and capitalisation are inconsistent, and several clauses are joined without clear grammatical control. Practise writing shorter, complete comparisons first, then combine them using accurate clauses—for example, “Nickel fell to its lowest point in June, while copper remained close to zero.”
