Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify all three metals and include some relevant figures, such as nickel’s peak of about 6% in January and its low of around -3% in June. You also note that zinc rises in February and that the metals recover towards the end of the year. However, the response does not give a clear, accurate overview of the main pattern: all three metals fall into negative monthly changes around June, then generally recover, while nickel shows the greatest fluctuations. Some details are inaccurate or unclear; for example, copper is described as reaching 2% in December, whereas the graph shows about 1.5%, and its rise is said to begin in October even though it is already around 1% from July to September. Select the key trends and report them precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence, moving from an opening statement to comments about the metals, and it uses a few signposts such as “Overall,” “First of all,” and “Another hand.” These help the reader recognise some shifts in focus. However, the ideas are not arranged into a clear comparison of the year’s main stages, and several points are repeated: the opening and the next paragraph both list the three metals, while copper’s decline is described more than once. Connections between sentences are often unclear, particularly in “after the sometime zinc (%) up to 3%” and “his almost 2%.” Group the information into a concise overview and logically ordered comparisons, using clear references to each metal.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “prices,” “percentage,” “decrease,” and “growing,” and you attempt to compare the metals. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “average different,” “more high,” “most decrese,” and “his persentage” are not natural or precise for describing a graph. Spelling errors, including “compair” and “persentage,” also reduce clarity. Build a small set of accurate trend expressions—such as “rose to,” “fell to,” “remained stable,” and “recovered”—and use them with the correct metal and figure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to form connected sentences and use some time references, but sentence structures are mostly simple or incomplete, and errors occur frequently enough to make several statements hard to interpret. Examples include “The graph illustrate,” “there have three items,” and “nickel are more high,” where subject–verb agreement and sentence construction are faulty. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or incorrectly used, as in “in graph” and “in previous month.” The long sentence beginning “Another hand” combines several ideas without clear grammatical control. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then use controlled comparisons such as “Nickel fell to -3% in June, while copper and zinc declined less sharply.”
