Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the graph’s subject and report several relevant movements, including nickel’s January peak at 6% and its sharp fall to −3% in June. However, the account is incomplete and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: copper and zinc do not both differ from nickel by 1% in January, and the claim that the metals’ percentages were “same” in August, September and October is incorrect. The final sentence is unfinished, so December’s figures and the overall pattern are not reported. There is also no clear overview of the broad trend, such as the mid-year downturn followed by recovery. Select the main turning points accurately and summarise the overall pattern before giving details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence, moving from the opening months to later periods, and uses markers such as “To begin” and “Further more” to signal progression. This gives the reader some organisation, but the progression is not consistently clear: several months are grouped together without explaining the comparisons, and the final phrase, “In last month samw,” leaves the account abruptly incomplete. Some linking is repetitive or awkward, while long sentences combine multiple metals and changes, making relationships difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the main details, and organise the figures into clear periods, such as the early decline, mid-year lows and late recovery.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “significant decline,” “slight increase,” and “change in price,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, including “prices changes,” “diffecences,” “decrease trend,” and “significant increase in significant increase.” “The % of metals was same” is also imprecise for describing monthly percentage changes. These errors sometimes make the intended comparison harder to understand. Build a more accurate set of terms for describing trends and comparisons, such as “fell,” “remained stable,” “recovered,” and “reached a low,” and check spelling and word forms before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the opening sentence makes the chart’s axes understandable. However, grammatical errors are frequent, particularly in sentence construction, articles, agreement and punctuation. For example, “the prices changes monthly” has an incorrect noun structure, while “copper and zinc have diffecences” shifts tense and lacks a clear comparison. The sentence beginning “In second and third month” also joins several changes without clear grammatical boundaries. The final fragment, “In last month samw,” is incomplete. Use complete sentences with a consistent past tense, and check articles and sentence boundaries—for example, “In the second month, nickel fell to 4%, while zinc rose to 3%.”
