Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the topic and make some relevant comparisons across the year, including copper’s fall to mid-year and nickel’s January peak. However, the report covers the graph only partially: the zinc description stops after saying its price rose in February, and several key movements are missing. For example, nickel falls sharply to its lowest point in June before recovering, while zinc also turns negative around June and rises again towards the end of the year. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: copper does not keep falling through June, as it is already at about -0.5% in May and June, and it does not decline in both October and November. A fuller overview and accurate coverage of all three metals are needed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overall statement, and descriptions of the metals. This gives the reader some sense of the topic and the order of discussion. However, progression is limited because the overview mainly says that the metals changed differently, without summarising the main shared pattern or contrasts. Linking phrases such as “In addition to” and “Furthermore, then” are repeated or used awkwardly, so connections between points are not always clear. The zinc section is also left as a single incomplete point, which makes the report feel unfinished. Organise the body into clear comparisons, such as early-year changes and the mid-to-late-year recovery, and use linking words only where they show a precise relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “peak,” “decreases,” “rises,” and “remain constant.” This shows a basic ability to discuss changes in prices. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “another metal things,” “surge upto,” and “grows” for a price movement. Spelling errors, including “janaury,” “decreses,” and “increses,” are noticeable and can make the report harder to read. Aim for precise, conventional chart language and check spelling carefully. Terms such as “fell,” “recovered,” “fluctuated,” and “rose to” would help you describe the data more clearly and avoid repeating the same verbs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the main topic is generally understandable. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “each have a different changes” has an agreement and number problem, while “the price of nickel … becomes lower … and become low” shifts verb forms within the same description. There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation problems, including the run-on sequence after the overview and missing spaces after commas and full stops. Work on subject–verb agreement, consistent present-tense forms, and complete sentence structure. Short, accurate sentences would be a useful foundation before adding more complex comparisons.
