Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the main overall movement in nickel and describe several key changes for nickel and zinc, including nickel’s January peak and June low and zinc’s rise in February followed by a decline. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: nickel reaches its lowest point in June, but it does not then rise to 1% in December; it reaches 1% in November and remains there. Copper is mentioned only in the overview and is not described in the body, so an important series is omitted. The response also ends abruptly with “Copper,” and it is five words below the required minimum. To make the summary more complete, report copper’s relatively modest fluctuations and give a clear overview comparing all three metals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate descriptions of nickel and zinc. This gives the reader some organisation, and linking words such as “Overall,” “However,” and “Moreover” signal relationships between points. However, progression is limited because the overview is difficult to interpret, and the final paragraph ends abruptly with the isolated word “Copper,” rather than completing the comparison. Some links are also unclear: “after two months in march” makes the timing harder to follow, while “remained steady at this price till october” could be stated more directly. Use one paragraph for a concise overview and organise the details in a consistent chronological or series-based order, ensuring every paragraph is complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “percentage,” “peak point,” “decline,” “remained constant,” and “increased.” These choices make the general subject and several trends understandable. However, the range is limited and some word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “rates of … metals,” “record the peak point,” and “went high.” Spelling errors, including “flactuating,” “comapred,” and “feburary,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard graph language such as “prices,” “reached a peak,” “rose,” and “fluctuated,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish a rise, fall, recovery, and stable period without relying on repeated general expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can generally follow the broad trends. However, errors are frequent, particularly in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “the nickel prices was record” combines incorrect agreement with an incorrect verb form; “it drop down” should use a past-tense verb; and “after dramatically decline” needs a grammatically formed verb phrase. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “Overall, The nickel,” and the final “Copper” is left as a fragment. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complete sentences around each comparison. Shorter, controlled sentences would improve clarity before you attempt more complex structures.
