Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the graph’s subject and report some relevant figures, including nickel’s 6% start and fall to −3% in June. However, the response only partially covers the data: the overview is inaccurate when it says all metals declined steadily and that prices rose significantly at year-end. In fact, copper and zinc generally recover in the final months, while nickel also rises from October, but the changes are not uniformly significant. The comparison that copper had the highest initial figure is also incorrect; nickel was highest. The account of copper and zinc stops mid-sentence, leaving major trends unreported. The response is 23 words below the required minimum, which contributes to its limited coverage. Add a complete overview and report the main movements for all three metals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: you begin with an introduction, follow with an overview, and then attempt to describe individual metals. This gives the reader a basic route through the response. However, progression is interrupted because the final paragraph ends unfinished (“and in the june”), and the overview combines several claims without clearly distinguishing the metals’ different patterns. Linking words such as “then,” “afterwards,” and “however” are used, but some connections are awkward or do not express a clear contrast. Paragraphing is present, though the information within paragraphs needs clearer sequencing. Group the main trends into complete paragraphs, use comparisons to connect the series, and ensure each sentence leads logically to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “monthly changes,” “remained stable,” “percentage,” and “declined,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “a significant rose” should use a noun or verb form correctly, and “Copper constituted of 2 percent” is not a natural way to describe a figure. There are also spelling errors such as “januray,” “wentdown,” and “icreased.” Aim for precise, conventional graph language such as “stood at,” “fell to,” “fluctuated,” and “recovered,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a sequence describing nickel’s movement from January to December. However, the range is limited, and errors are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. Examples include “Overall, changes in prices of all metals declined steady,” where the sentence structure and adverb form are faulty, and “Nickel was stood at 6 percent,” which uses an incorrect verb construction. Agreement and articles are also problematic in “metals was remained stable.” Several sentences are joined or punctuated poorly, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise accurate past-tense reporting patterns, such as “Nickel stood at 6% before falling to −3%,” and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
