Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify nickel as the metal with the greatest fluctuation and report its fall from 6% in January to about 1% in March and −3% in June, which are relevant and broadly accurate details. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it gives no developed overview of the full year and says little about the later months or the other metals. The claim that copper and zinc were mostly stable is only partly supported; both fell below zero around June and rose again towards the end of the year. The response is also 81 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to select and compare the main features. Include a clear overview and several accurate comparisons across the year.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic sequence: you introduce the graph, make a general comparison, and then describe nickel from January to June. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, the response has no clear overall progression beyond that short account, and the final sentence stops before covering the rest of the year. Linking is limited to phrases such as “as we can see” and “then,” while the ideas about stability and fluctuation are not developed into a structured comparison. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the key details, and organise the figures by period or by metal. Clear links such as “by contrast” and “towards the end of the year” would help connect comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “drop,” “stable,” and “major changes,” and the reader can generally understand that you are describing price movements. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling errors make the writing less clear, including “matals,” “zing,” “Nickle,” and “flactuated.” Some phrasing is also imprecise: “the only metal form” does not clearly express that nickel had the largest changes, and “both materials” is an awkward reference to the metals. Build a more accurate set of trend expressions, such as “declined,” “recovered,” and “remained relatively steady,” and check spelling and word choice carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to combine ideas, for example in “as we can see nickel is the only metal form which fluctuated most,” and it uses a time reference to describe the data. However, sentence structures are very limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. The opening lacks an article (“The graph illustrated about changes”), while the second line joins several clauses without appropriate punctuation. The phrase “in 2014 january Nickle is 6%” also has problems with capitalisation and tense; use “In January 2014, nickel stood at 6%.” Aim for complete sentences with accurate punctuation, and use past-tense reporting consistently when describing the 2014 figures.
