Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify all three metals and report several relevant movements, including nickel’s sharp fall to about -3% in June and copper’s rise to around 1.5% in December. However, the response only partially summarises the graph because it repeatedly confuses price change with demand or use: claims such as “the nickel is the most demanded” and zinc “is 35% in F” are not supported by the chart. The overview that the metals’ prices were “approximately same” throughout is also inaccurate; nickel fluctuated much more sharply, while copper stayed comparatively stable. Select the main trends accurately, distinguish percentage price changes from usage, and give a clear overview of the contrasting patterns.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation: you introduce the graph, provide an overview, and then discuss nickel, zinc and copper in separate paragraphs. This gives the reader a basic route through the response. However, the progression is weakened by unclear or contradictory statements, such as describing nickel as both the best-performing metal and one whose price fell, and by repeatedly shifting between price and “use.” Connectors such as “but,” “after” and “and” are used frequently without always making the relationship between ideas clear. Group the metals by their shared pattern or contrast, and use topic sentences and precise references to months so each paragraph develops one clear comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary includes some relevant terms, such as “fluctuat,” “stable” and “down fall,” showing an attempt to describe changes over time. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices make the data difficult to interpret. “Demanded” and “people use it” describe consumption, not the percentage change in prices shown in the graph; “35%” also appears to be an inaccurate description rather than a suitable trend phrase. Spelling errors such as “interset,” “begning” and “lowlist” further reduce clarity. Build a more precise set of graph terms—such as “price rose,” “declined,” “recovered” and “remained steady”—and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to form longer sentences using words such as “but,” “after” and “than,” and some basic meaning can be followed. However, sentence structures are very limited and errors are frequent, sometimes obscuring the intended comparison. Examples include “This graph illustrate,” “the three metals prices is,” and “its greatist down fall … is -3%,” which show problems with subject–verb agreement, possessives and sentence construction. Articles and punctuation are also inconsistent, and several clauses run together without clear boundaries. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses—for example, “Nickel fell to -3% in June, before recovering to -1% in July.”
