Average monthly change in prices of copper, nickel and zinc (2014)
Student answer (Band 5.0)
We are going to discuss about below graph.Which is related to, average of monthly change in prices of copper, nicel and zinc acoording to 2014 report. So this graph is showing three different metels statistics. Now first we are going to discuss about Copper statistics.
We can see in graph of january 2014 statics of Copper , it was exactly 2% price but in Faberaury it decrease to 1% , then in March it more decrease 1% to around 0.8% but in Aprial remain stable as previous month but in May it again highly decreased 0.8% to around -0.5% , then again June stable as prevous month. So the July Copper rate again highly increased -0.5% to 1% then August and September remain same , October again price little change or increase to 0.8% also November remain same but finally in decemper again it price increase 0.8% to 1.5%.
Now let discuss about Nickel statistics.
We can see in graph of january 2014 statics of Nickel , it had exactly 6% price but in Faberaury it decrease to 4% , then in March it more decrease 4% to 1% but in Aprial remain stable as previous month but in May it again decreased 1% to around 0.7% , then in June its price highly decreased 0.7% to -3%. So the July Nickel rate again highly increased -3% to -1% then August and September remain same then October again price change or decrease -1% to -2%.But in November it highly increased -2% to 1% also december remain unchange.
Now finally we are going to discuss about Zinc metal.
We can also see in graph of january 2014 statics of Zinc , it was exactly 1% price but in Faberaury it increased to 3% , then in March it more decrease 3% to 2% but in Aprial it decrease to 1.5% in May it again minor decreased 1.5% to 1% , then in June again highly decreased to -1% .So in July Zinc price again minor improve increased -1% to -1.5% then August and September remain same , October again price little change or decrease to -1%.But in November big change happen it increase -1% to 1.5% and finally also it increase 1.5% to 2%.
So if we talk about comparison between them, we can see clarly these pricies was unpridictable in each month.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You report the three metals separately and include many monthly figures, so the response contains relevant information from the graph. However, it does not provide a clear overview of the main patterns: for example, nickel begins far higher than the other metals, all three fall around mid-year, and they recover toward the end. Several figures or movements are also misreported. Copper is described as falling from 1% to “around 0.8%” in March, whereas the graph shows about 0.5%; zinc rises from -1% to about -0.5% in July, not to -1.5%. The final comparison that prices were “unpredictable” is too general to summarise the key contrasts. Select the most important trends and check figures carefully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for copper, nickel and zinc, followed by a comparison. This makes the subject of each section easy to identify. However, the overall progression is repetitive: each metal is described month by month using nearly the same sequence of “then,” “but,” and “again,” so the main patterns are difficult to distinguish from minor details. The final comparison is only one broad statement and does not connect the series meaningfully. Grouping the metals by shared stages—early-year movement, mid-year decline and late recovery—would create a clearer progression. Use linking expressions selectively and make comparisons within the relevant paragraphs rather than leaving them until the end.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant terms, including “decreased,” “increased,” “remain stable” and “comparison,” and the reader can generally identify whether prices rise or fall. However, the vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with “highly,” “little change” and “again” used repeatedly, sometimes where a more precise description is needed. Several spelling errors, such as “nicel,” “metels,” “Faberaury” and “unpridictable,” reduce accuracy and can distract the reader. Some expressions are also unnatural, including “discuss about” and “big change happen.” Build a more precise range for describing trends and comparisons, and proofread spelling and collocations. This would make the account clearer without requiring more complicated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences with time clauses and contrast, for example, “in May it again decreased … then in June its price highly decreased,” but these structures are often difficult to control. Errors in articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries occur throughout: “We are going to discuss about below graph” and “in November big change happen” are examples. Commas and full stops are frequently missing, and some sentences run together, particularly in the nickel and zinc sections. This makes the account less easy to follow even when the intended trend is understandable. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses such as “After falling to…,” and check tense, articles and punctuation in each sentence.
