Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the three metals and gives an overview, noting that copper changed only slightly and nickel fell sharply. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: zinc did not become “the most sale,” and the claim that nickel “was the most demand” is not supported by a graph of monthly price changes. The account of copper also misreports the timing: it fell from 2% in January to about 0.5% in March, not to -0.5%, and the response ends before describing the rest of the year or the other metals in detail. The task is only partially addressed, with key trends and comparisons missing. The response is also 48 words below the required minimum; develop a complete summary of the main movements and turning points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph about copper. This gives the reader a recognisable starting structure. However, the progression is incomplete: the final sentence breaks off at “remained unchanged to,” and there is no developed account of nickel or zinc. The overview’s ideas are also difficult to follow because “most sale” and “most demand” do not clearly express the intended comparisons. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and the main data, and connect comparisons explicitly with phrases such as “by contrast” or “whereas.” Ensure each sentence is finished and that the report moves through the year in a clear order.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “fluctuated,” “declined,” “levelled off,” “remained steady,” and “modest decline.” These choices show an attempt to use task-specific language rather than relying only on basic terms. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear: “the most sale” and “the most demand” do not describe the graph appropriately, while “rate of change in the prices monthly” is awkwardly formed. Spelling errors such as “flactuated” and “experinced” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise expressions such as “recorded the largest monthly increase” or “experienced a moderate fluctuation,” and check spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence structures, including an overview clause beginning “Overall, it can be clearly seen…” and a sequence describing copper’s changes. Some meaning is understandable, but grammatical errors are frequent enough to make parts difficult to interpret. For example, “The line graph illustrate” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “change in price of copper” needs clearer article and number marking. The overview sentence also has an unclear structure, particularly around “which become the most sale,” and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and complete sentence construction. A useful revision would be to separate the overview into two short sentences and ensure every sentence has a clear subject and finished verb phrase.
