Student answer (Band 7.0)
Applying for jobs has become more than just submitting your resumes as employers today are also asking people applying for jobs about their personal information like their hobbies and interest and whether they are married or single. Some people think this type of information is irrelevant for a job application while some people think that this type of information can help the employers select the best candidate from the pool.
Some people think that asking for this type of personal information for a job application is irrelevant as information related to a person's hobbies or their marital status does not affect one's work. Many people today like to keep their personal and professional life separate and believe that neither one should interfere with the other and as hobbies or marital status is a part of someone's personal life and they don't reflect on someone's skills or ability to perform their job. Such people think that having relevant education and job experience for the role they are applying for should be the only factors which should be considered while screening candidates for a job.
While there are people who believe that personal information like hobbies and marital status can help the employer gain more insight about the overall attitude of a candidate. For example a person who plays football regularly as a hobby can be seen as a person who is a good team player and can be a good fit for a job role that includes working with a team or a candidate who is interested in painting can have an artistic mind and can be a suitable candidate for a job role that requires creativity or innovation.
I believe that asking for personal information is relevant and it can help the employer know about a person beyond their work experience and education an it can also help the employer build a strong connection with their employees on a personal level which can positively impact the success of any organization.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the argument regarding team dynamics and the separation of personal and professional life. However, the development is somewhat limited; the final paragraph is quite brief and could have been expanded with more specific reasoning or examples to fully justify the position. While the task is fulfilled, the depth of analysis is more characteristic of a Band 6.5 or 7.0, as the arguments remain somewhat general rather than deeply explored.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'While there are people who believe' and 'For example', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit repetitive or mechanical. The flow between sentences is generally smooth, but there is room for more sophisticated linking to improve the overall cohesion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'screening candidates', 'professional life', and 'innovation'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. Some collocations could be more precise (e.g., 'gain more insight about' could be 'gain deeper insight into'). There are no significant spelling errors, but the lexical variety is not yet at a level that demonstrates a wide, flexible range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'hobbies and interest' (should be plural 'interests'), 'as hobbies or marital status is' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'an it can also' (typo). The punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences that could be improved with better use of commas or semicolons. The control of grammar is sufficient for communication, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score.
