Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some Recruiters ask random private questions on job applying portal such as their hobbies and interests, weather they are married or single. Some people say that this information may be relevant and useful. Others disagree.

Firstly, It all started with personality questions for employers to know that if the person applying does have learned a skill in life from different sports or hobbies. For an example, If a person plays soccer daily it requires physical stamina that job might require. Another example is that weather they like to read some books or not which can be helpful to identify if he/she is capable of analysing documents at the job.

Other view states that, some information like relationship status might be an irrelevant thing to ask because it does not make any logical argument that can prove the productivity of the employee. However, some information asked are just there to check the personal activity and it is very important to define the stability. For an instance, There are some personality questions like if they are married and how long they have been married. Which can be a crucial thing for an employer to ask if they are hiring someone for a long time.

In my opinion, there are some questions which are important and it should be included in the apply process. However, employer can ask more technical questions regarding the job and can be more straight forward in the process. I have faced multiple questions about my racial profile when I was applying some jobs. Those questions does not provide any purpose to the job they are hiring.

To conclude, Some questions make an applying candidate uncomfortable. For that, there should be an option to skip the question and it should not have any impact on the results.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide examples like soccer for stamina or reading for analytical skills, the argument regarding marital status is less convincing and slightly repetitive. The inclusion of racial profiling in the third paragraph is a relevant personal experience, but it shifts the focus slightly away from the prompt's specific examples of hobbies and marital status. To improve, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear logical links to the employer's perspective, and maintain a tighter focus on the specific categories mentioned in the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Another example', 'However', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. For instance, the transition in the third paragraph ('However, some information asked are just there...') is slightly abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring that the personal opinion is more distinctly separated or integrated into the overall structure to enhance the logical progression of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'recruiters', 'productivity', 'technical questions', and 'racial profile'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'random private questions on job applying portal' instead of 'job application portals' and 'irrelevant thing' which is quite informal. There is also a recurring issue with word forms, such as 'weather' used instead of 'whether'. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary, the lack of precision and occasional misuse of common words limits your score. Expanding your range to include more precise collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they are frequently marred by grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('some information asked are') and incorrect word usage ('weather' instead of 'whether'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some errors in sentence boundaries and capitalization (e.g., 'For an instance, There are...'). These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they do not typically prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To reach a higher band, focus on correcting basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent use of complex structures.
