Student answer (Band 6.5)

Employer's some time ask applicants for personal information about their hobbies or interests, whether they are single or married. Some people argue that this information is relevant or useful while other disagee. On the one hand, people believe that it is important to ask personal questions from applications to make sure that whether they are eligible for the job or not. Because all companies have there on priority and criteria to give jobs to the people. If the people fulfil that the company will give them job. So many companies ask various personal questions to verify there interest in all other things rather than jobs. They also ask questions about their routine to make sure that he/she will be on time for work. And how they manage there work and personal issues together whatever they are in difficulty or not. On the other hand, some people think and disagree that these questions should not be ask to applicants. Because applicants have some hesitation to give answer about their personal matters and information. People argue that they only ask questions about their previous qualifications and jobs. So that if a person doesn't want do show his/her life style and do not want to describe about other personal things, the companies do not have a right to repeat the questions many times. Once time my friend went for applying jobs, the employer asked many different questions about his qualifications and he replieded best. But when employer asked about his family he hesitated. In conclusion, I want to give my opinion for both views. It is necessary to ask many different questions about person to make sure that he is able for job or not. But if a person doesn't want to give personal information so companies will only ask about there qualifications, previous job and salary.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that companies have their own 'priority and criteria,' the explanation of why personal questions are relevant is a bit repetitive and lacks depth. The counter-argument regarding privacy is also quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your reasoning with more specific examples or deeper analysis of the implications of these hiring practices. Your position is clear, but the supporting arguments could be more robustly developed to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'they' or 'there' used inconsistently). The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesise the arguments presented. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their intended nouns would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'there' instead of 'their' and 'replieded' instead of 'replied'. You rely on a somewhat limited range of vocabulary, often repeating basic terms like 'questions' and 'jobs'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations related to the professional and employment context. While your meaning is always clear, the lack of variety and the persistent spelling/word-choice errors prevent a higher score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Employer's some time ask'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'should not be ask'), and confusion between 'there' and 'their'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence boundaries. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that verbs are correctly conjugated and that pronouns are used accurately in context.
