Student answer (Band 6.0)

On certain occasions hiring manager will ask for applicants to provide for personal data like hobbies, martial status and interests. There are certain people who believe that giving such information is important and helpful while others oppose it. Although it feels safe for people on certain situations, I believe it helps employer to know even more about job applicant.

Sometimes details about people who applied for job is beneficial to employer. Most of the time they ask to know not only about technical skills but also personality and mindset of the people. For Example, for weightlifting jobs employers often ask for height, weight and capability to understand if suitable for role. As a result they get clarity even more through asking questions relevant for role.

Most of the applicants feels safe for not giving any details related to personal life. only in some cases employer hire people based on specific data like gender, caste and religious. For instance, a recent news in India TCS hired people based on religious, forcing them to convert into them. It causes huge impact on individual life like mental stress, depression and feeling vulnerable. Even though it is safer but I strongly agree to have the details with employer for them to decide the right fit for the position.

In conclusion I agree with giving details about people who applied for particular job helps employer to select ideal person who can fit for the role easily while certain disadvantages associated with it in some cases by threating them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The example regarding 'weightlifting jobs' is specific but slightly narrow in scope, and the example concerning 'TCS' is anecdotal and lacks a clear connection to the broader debate about personal information in hiring. While the position is consistent, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating the prompt rather than synthesizing the main points effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For example', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Most of the applicants feels safe for not giving any details'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother to ensure a more natural flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'martial status' (should be 'marital status') and 'threating them' (should be 'threatening them'). The range is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors like 'important', 'helpful', and 'safe'. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific collocations related to human resources and professional recruitment to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Most of the applicants feels', 'employer hire people') and article usage errors ('a recent news in India'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels slightly disjointed. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
