Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is disagreement about whether employer should ask personal questions in the interview regarding interests, marriage status and hobbies or not because some people think that this information is relevant and useful other consider it irrelevant. In my opinion, It is definitely irrelevant and should not be asked.

Those who support argue that employees interest and hobbies matters for better performance. If a person whose hobby is listening music and interest is to become a singer but doing a office job only just to survive. This kind of a person cannot become the reason for successful company. As a result interest shows your capability and dedication towards your work. Furthermore, some employers think that a married person cannot do job properly due to family responsibilities. For example, In a article written that a mother is rejected for HR manager job because of her 3 children's responsibilities. By saying that you are not able to focus and manage everything at the same time for our big company.

On the other hand, individuals think that these type of personal questions are irrelevant and cannot judge a person's ability to do work. A person can perform excellent just because of money without interest. Therefore, passion matter but not more than need. Furthermore, a married man or women can manage everything because multitask is also a skill that they have it. To illustrate it, Priyanka chopra is a bollywood and hollywood actress who was actress when she was single and now she is married and role model of every girl after starting career again in a new country from basic.

I believe that personal question should be optional and a person should not be judged for their status and interest because number of examples are front of us which shows that these question are not able to judge a candidate's skills.

In conclusion, marriage status and interest left behind when a person decide to become rich and successful and these questions should not asked to reject them without knowing about their experience and skill set.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both sides of the argument and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the discussion on performance versus personal life and the mention of multitasking. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the example regarding Priyanka Chopra is a bit tangential and not fully integrated into the argument about workplace hiring practices. The position is consistent throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and fulfills the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To illustrate it, Priyanka chopra is...'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the sentence 'In a article written that a mother is rejected...' lacks a clear subject. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'dedication', 'multitask', and 'role model'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'employees interest' (should be 'employees' interests'), 'listening music' (should be 'listening to music'), and 'these type of personal questions' (should be 'these types'). The range is sufficient to communicate ideas, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in collocation prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions (e.g., 'employer should ask', 'In a article', 'these questions should not asked'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas and capitalization errors. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the response, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining complex sentence construction.
