IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Employers sometimes ask people applying for jobs for personal information, such as their hobbies and interests, and whether they are married or single. Some people say that this information may be relevant and useful. Others disagree.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people argue that it is normal to ask people about their personal information such as their hobbies or interests because it may be helpful to employers while hiring. However, other people oppose it. I will discuss about the both views and will give my opinion at the end of essay.
On the one side, some people believe that employers should ask individuals about their personal information for the job because it will help employers for their selection for the job. To explain it in clear way, a person's identity and character are based on their hobbies and interest. For example, if a person is good caption of the team than it reflect that person's leadership skill. Moreover, some companies need a person who can work on any schedule. Therefore, if a person is single than it would be easy to manage. Hence, personal information are very useful and that's why employers ask while applying jobs.
On the other side, some people think that personal life should be kept separate from work life. Employers should focus more on candidate's skills rather than his personal information because their personal information are irrelevant. Furthermore, some people find it more sensitive if someone ask about their private information and it might reduce trust. Laslty, marital status can lead to unfair decisions such as preganacy assumptions or commitment.
To conclude, although asking about personal information can have some drawbacks like unfair decisions or privacy, I still believe that employers should ask about it as it will help them to select the right candidate for the job because these information are relevant and useful.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall arrangement and uses standard paragraphing conventions to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one side', 'On the other side', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are used to signpost the structure. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in the slightly awkward phrasing 'discuss about the both views' in the introduction. Logical progression is present, but paragraph internal cohesion could be smoother. This places the response firmly in Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'personal information', 'marital status', 'commitment', and 'drawbacks'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, including 'preganacy' instead of 'pregnancy', 'Laslty' for 'Lastly', and the redundant preposition in 'discuss about the both views'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited precision. These errors do not impede overall communication, reflecting a standard consistent with Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures ('if a person is good caption of the team than it reflect...').
