Student answer (Band 6.0)

The numerous aspects are identified by the employers when they are hiring someone in the company. Sometimes employers ask a few personal questions either related to their interests or their marital status and some people are agreed with this view whereas, many others do not like this prespective. This essay will highlight both aspects along with my personal opnion.

To begin with the agreement view, one of the significant reasons of asking these questions is that an employer can easily guess about their skills. For example, if a person is intersted in voluntry work then the manager can imagine that this candidate will help others at workplace. Moreover, If he has a hobby of playing games then he is a suitable individual to work in a team. Furthermore, weather he is married or not will assist to think about his responsible abilities.

However, according to those who think these are the irrelevant questions for the job seekers because there are another important factors that are mandatory to consider while selecting a suitable candidate. Likewise, the recruitment should be based on the qualification, experience or other professional skills rather than hobbies and martial status. Apart from it, a manager may make assumptions about candiate's financial situtaion from their married or single life as compared to his actual abilities.

In my opinion, I would say an employer should mainly focus on the experience , qualification and other essential skills such as techincal and communication skills which are mandatory to have in today's competitve world.

To conclude, although it is important to know about the hobbies and interests of the job seekers but, the factors like certifications and experience should not be undermined because these are the assets of the business.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views regarding personal information in job applications and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the arguments supporting the idea that employers can gauge skills from hobbies, such as playing games meaning someone can work in a team, are somewhat under-developed and rely on simplistic assertions. Similarly, the counter-arguments are relevant but could be extended further with deeper reasoning. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of support places the response firmly within the band where ideas are relevant yet some remain less fully articulated.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction through body paragraphs to a final conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct sections for the agreement view, the opposing view, and the writer's personal stance. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In my opinion'. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive, bridging the gap into higher bands where cohesion is more flexible and unobtrusive. Overall, the organizational structure is easy to follow, successfully achieving a clear logical flow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'marital status', 'competitive world', and 'certifications'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'prespective' instead of perspective, 'opnion' instead of opinion, 'intersted' instead of interested, 'voluntry' instead of voluntary, 'weather' instead of whether, 'martial' instead of marital, and 'situtaion' instead of situation. While these vocabulary and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, they reflect a limited precision and occasional inaccuracy that prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses. There are some grammar errors in punctuation, article use, and prepositional patterns, such as 'one of the significant reasons of asking' instead of 'for asking', and missing articles in phrases like 'at workplace'. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to understand the intended meaning without difficulty. To reach the next band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of error-free complex sentences and finer control over grammatical agreements and prepositions.
