Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people believe that in interviews some people like to ask for personal information such as whether are they married or not, also about hobbies and interests and some people believe it is essential information because it is useful. But some people disgaree with this statement.

On the one side, employers who ask personal questions because they want to check their background and their life. They like to ask about their habits and interests because they want to get acknowledge about these things. If anything happens in the future, they can ask for their assistance. Besides that, some workers also want to know about their marital status. In this way, they can check that their employee is happy with their life or not. As a result, if they are happy they can achieve great success in company. If they are suffering form depression or stress, they cannot provide benefit to the company.

On the other side, some people do not agree with this opinion. It results in unethical.

many people believe that they should not ask employees about their personal data because it is unethical. However, some does not like to talk about their personal things. Because it is their identity, without consent it should be prohibited. In addition, some people do not like to ask because they do not have an interest in someone's lives.

In my opinion, I also disagree with this statement. Any personal identity, about their lives or marital status, employers should not ask about these things. It affects negatively on employees.

In conclusion, personal identity, hobbies or interests these questions are unethical.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views and state your own position: you explain why employers might ask about interests and marital status, then argue that such questions are unethical and should not be asked. However, the discussion is only partially developed. For example, the claim that employers can seek workers’ assistance if “anything happens” is unclear, and the link between marital happiness and success at work is asserted rather than explained. Your opposing view is also presented in broad terms, without a specific example or a clear distinction between job-relevant interests and private details such as marital status. Develop each side with a more precise reason and a relevant example, and make your position clearer throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one side,” “On the other side,” and “In my opinion” helps readers follow the basic direction. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: several claims are placed next to one another without clear explanation of how they connect. The transition from “It results in unethical” to the next sentence is also disrupted by a sentence fragment and an unexpected line break. Some linking phrases, including “As a result” and “In addition,” do not establish a fully clear relationship between ideas. Use complete topic sentences and connect each reason to its consequence or example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “personal information,” “marital status,” “consent,” and “unethical.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. “Get acknowledge about these things” does not express the intended idea naturally, while “provide benefit to the company” and “personal identity” are imprecise in context. There are also spelling errors, such as “disgaree” and “form,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise terms such as “assess an applicant’s suitability” or “private information,” and check spelling and common word combinations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and subordinate clauses, but the range is limited and complex constructions are often inaccurate. For example, “whether are they married or not” has incorrect question-word order, and “On the one side, employers who ask personal questions because…” is not a complete sentence. Other problems include “some does not like,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “Because it is their identity,” which is a fragment. Punctuation also interrupts the flow in “It results in unethical. many people…” Practise forming complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check word order, agreement, and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these basics would make your ideas easier to follow.
