Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope your are doing well

I am writing this letter to let you know about my papers I forget at your hotel and request you to keep them under your hand until my return.

As you know, I came to city of New York for my company' work, and your hotel named travelodge was booked before my trip for my 7 days stay. However, after reaching at my home, I realized my documents were not at my suitcase. As far as I remember, on my last day of stay, while collecting all my belongings, I put them on the table.

The reason behind their importance is that they contain not only company papers but also my personal ones as well. Moreover, they contain some confidential important related to my company, making them valuable for me.Otherwise, It is likely to lose my job if i donot get them back.

I would like you to keep them under your eye. Most probably, I will collect them from your hotel next week. So, its my request you to keep them safe and let your staff know if they find them, they can handover to you

Thank You for your help and services.. Looking forward to hearing from you

Yours Faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three required points clearly: you identify the hotel room table as the likely place, explain that the papers include company and personal documents, and ask the manager to keep them safe until you collect them next week. The possible consequence—“likely to lose my job”—also conveys why their return matters. These details make the purpose clear and the request relevant throughout. To strengthen the response further, specify how the manager should contact you or what to do if the papers are found, and develop the collection arrangement more precisely. The explanation of their importance is clear, though the confidentiality point could be expressed more specifically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a sensible progression: it introduces the problem, explains where the papers may be, gives reasons for their importance, and ends with a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “However” and “Moreover” guide the reader through the explanation. Some links are less smooth or precise, however. “As you know” assumes shared knowledge, while “Otherwise” does not clearly connect the risk of losing your job to the preceding sentence. The final request also combines several actions in one long sentence. Use more precise transitions and separate the request into clear steps to make the progression more effortless.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation and its importance, including “confidential,” “belongings,” and “collect.” However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make parts of the letter sound unnatural: “keep them under your hand,” “under your eye,” and “confidential important” do not express the intended meaning idiomatically. “I forget” also uses the wrong word form for the past event, and “company' work” contains an inaccurate form. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build a bank of standard formal-letter phrases and check collocations and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including the clause beginning “while collecting all my belongings” and the sentence explaining the papers’ importance. However, errors occur across sentence forms and punctuation. Examples include “I hope your are doing well,” “after reaching at my home,” and “if i donot get them back”; these show problems with agreement, prepositions, capitalization, and verb construction. There are also missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent sentence punctuation, which sometimes makes the text harder to read. Aim first for accurate, complete sentences, then add complex clauses. Proofreading for capitals, spacing, and sentence boundaries would improve control.
