Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing regarding the misplacement of my at document at your hotel. I would like to bring to your attention that I stayed in room 06 last night.
Firstly, I would like to explain that I am hoping that I left that paper on the side table next to the bed.
This situation has happened because I had a long stay at your place, so I arranged my stuff accordingly, and I would appreciate it if you could find it for me.
Furthermore, I would like to mention that the document is my job employment letter.
I believe that this document, which I need next week for my health card, if you could help to resolve this matter efficiently.
Finally, I would like to request that, if you find it, you send it to my location; I will pay for it.
I hope you consider my request and take the necessary steps as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to receiving the response.
Yours faithfully,
Sam

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: identifying the location of the papers, explaining their importance, and requesting action from the manager. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why the papers are important is a bit fragmented, and the request for action could be more formal and precise. While the task is fully addressed, the tone is occasionally inconsistent for a formal letter to a hotel manager. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more detail and that the formal register is maintained throughout the entire response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing, which helps the reader follow your request. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Finally' to structure your points. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. For instance, the sentence 'I believe that this document, which I need next week for my health card, if you could help to resolve this matter efficiently' is grammatically disjointed, which disrupts the logical progression of your argument. Improving the connection between your ideas will help achieve a more natural flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your needs clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'misplacement', 'efficiently', and 'consideration'. However, there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'arranged my stuff' and 'send it to my location', which are a bit informal or imprecise for this context. There is also a minor error in 'my at document', which appears to be a typo. To improve, try to incorporate more precise, formal collocations suitable for professional correspondence, such as 'personal belongings' instead of 'stuff' or 'forward the documents' instead of 'send it'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you are able to convey your meaning, there are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, the sentence 'I believe that this document, which I need next week for my health card, if you could help to resolve this matter efficiently' is a run-on and lacks a clear main verb structure. Additionally, 'I will pay for it' is a bit blunt. Focus on ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically complete and that your subject-verb agreement is consistent throughout the letter.
