Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: the location of the papers, their importance, and the requested action. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request, although the opening 'Hi Sir' is slightly informal for a business context. The ideas are clearly presented, and the purpose of the letter is immediately obvious. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific details about the appearance of the documents to assist the staff in locating them, which would further develop the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized, with a clear progression from the situation to the request. Paragraphing is used, though the structure is somewhat fragmented. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'If you found' are used to link ideas, but the flow is occasionally interrupted by repetitive phrasing and minor punctuation errors. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the transition between the explanation of the documents and the request for action could be smoother to improve the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their needs clearly. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'drag your attention' (instead of 'draw your attention') and 'fell behind the table' (instead of 'slipped behind'). While the student attempts to use business-related terminology like 'financial summaries' and 'client contracts', the range is somewhat limited. Spelling errors, such as 'kidly', also detract from the professional tone of the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('at the hotel Room 402'), incorrect verb forms ('could found'), and inconsistent capitalization. Punctuation around commas and periods is often erratic, with spaces placed before punctuation marks. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to subject-verb agreement and basic proofreading would improve the accuracy significantly.
