Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly state where you think the papers were left (the reception), explain their importance (thesis research), and provide instructions to the manager. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although some phrasing is slightly informal. The ideas are relevant and developed sufficiently to meet the requirements of the task. To improve, ensure that you fully address the 'what you want him/her to do' section with more precise instructions, such as asking for a specific timeframe for a response or providing your contact details clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'Therefore' (implied), though the flow could be improved with a wider variety of linking words. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing of 'the papers' is consistent. To reach a higher band, try to vary your sentence starters and use more sophisticated cohesive devices to connect your ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple conjunctions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'reception', 'thesis', and 'CCTV'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'inform you above' instead of 'inform you about' and 'doubled check' instead of 'double-checked'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that prepositions are used correctly with verbs.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'This papers are' (subject-verb agreement), 'I have spend' (incorrect verb form), and 'can you please able to' (incorrect modal structure). These errors occur frequently enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your request. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of modal verbs and past participles.
