Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to articulate about left papers during my stay at your hotel and forgot to take with me which are more prominent to me.
Firstly I always have them in my backpack which is easy and safe to carry with me. I remember when I got a call from my office which I had to open those documents while I had conversation with my colleague. After that I went to take bath soon after that i was hurry to leave the hotel quickly to catch my flight on time.
Those documents are really important. As it contains confidential information about my office place. I don't want to reveal data related to clients information which can cause me and my company in trouble.
I would request you to go and have a thorough check on and also the housekeeping worker if they found one.
I would greatly appreciate if you consider this request as prominent and get back to me as soon as possible.
Your Sincerely
Divya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You identified where the papers were left (the hotel room), explained their importance (confidential office/client data), and requested action (a search by staff). However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why you were in a hurry is slightly disjointed, and the request for the manager could be more formal and specific regarding how to contact you if the papers are found. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though some phrasing is slightly unnatural.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'After that', though these are somewhat repetitive. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the situation to the importance of the documents and finally to the requested action. However, the connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your thoughts more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks precision and variety. You use words like 'prominent' incorrectly in this context (e.g., 'more prominent to me' instead of 'very important'). There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'articulate about left papers'. While your meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and you rely on basic descriptors. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'I am writing to articulate about left papers' is grammatically incorrect, and 'I was hurry' should be 'I was in a hurry'. There are also issues with verb tense consistency and article usage (e.g., 'the housekeeping worker'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions to improve your accuracy.
