Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Hope you are doing well. I am writing this to ask your assistance to find out my important papers, which i belive i left in my room during my stay at your hotel last weekend.
According to me i think i left them in the wardrobe in Room 485. I thought it would be safe over there and i will take them with me before check out in the meantime i was working on other documents. But unfortunatelly i forgotten to pack them because i was in hurry to catch my flight on time.
Those documents are extremely important because they include my license, university certificates and several business contracts. I would not be able to replace them and lose them because it would be both time-consuming and expensive and could also delay my important work meetings and commitments.
I would really appreciate if you could ask housekeeping staff to check the room throughly, especially the wardrobe. If they found the papers please let me know as soon as possible. I am in so much worry. I would also be happy to apy and postage or courier charges required to send the documents to my address.
Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours Faithfully,
Inderpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identified the location of the papers (Room 485, wardrobe), explained their importance (license, certificates, contracts), and provided a clear request for action (housekeeping to check and courier the items). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the correspondence is clear from the outset. You have fulfilled all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'According to me', 'However', and 'In addition' (though some transitions could be more natural). The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the situation to the explanation of importance and finally to the requested action. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter. The flow of information is easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. You use relevant terms like 'housekeeping', 'courier charges', and 'documents'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'ask your assistance to find out' (should be 'ask for your assistance in finding') and 'in so much worry' (should be 'very worried'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. Expanding your use of collocations would further improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'i belive i left' (capitalization and spelling), 'unfortunatelly i forgotten' (spelling and tense), and 'happy to apy' (typo). There are also minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. Despite these errors, the majority of your sentences are understandable, and you show an attempt to use more complex structures to convey your message effectively.
