Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: the location of the papers, the reason for their importance, and the requested action. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation regarding why the papers are important is a bit repetitive and could have been more clearly articulated. Despite this, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader understands exactly what is required. The response meets all the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. The use of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Finally' helps to guide the reader through the text. However, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly disjointed. Overall, the structure is sufficient to ensure the message is conveyed clearly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'I forget my business papers' instead of 'I left my business papers' and 'cross checking the papers with there worked hours'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to basic, functional terms. There are also minor spelling errors, such as 'pappers' and 'tried' (likely meant 'tired'), which do not impede communication but indicate a need for more careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'The Time I was remember of the entry was', 'I am late so forget to pick', and 'when you got the paper'. These errors involve verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and word order. While these mistakes do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. A greater focus on basic sentence construction and tense accuracy is needed.
