Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 89 words. This significantly impacts the development of the ideas. While all three bullet points are addressed—mentioning the location of the papers, explaining their importance for a job interview, and requesting their return—the lack of length means these points are underdeveloped. To achieve a higher band, you must expand on your ideas, such as describing the specific room or area where you left the papers, providing more detail about the nature of the documents, and suggesting specific arrangements for their return (e.g., courier or postage).
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is very brief, which limits the use of cohesive devices. There is a basic attempt at paragraphing, but the lack of development makes the flow feel disjointed. You use some basic connectors like 'firstly' and 'therefore', but the overall structure is too thin to demonstrate a range of cohesive devices. To improve, ensure you use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly, and ensure that your ideas are expanded into full, well-structured paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You use basic terms such as 'important document' and 'job interview'. There are also several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'mensiod' (mentioned) and 'forword' (forward). To improve, you should aim to use a broader range of vocabulary related to travel and business correspondence. For example, instead of 'come to you hotel', use 'stayed at your hotel', and instead of 'send it on', use 'forward them to my address'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb tense ('i come', 'i going'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters and commas. The response relies almost entirely on simple sentence structures. To improve, you need to focus on mastering basic verb tenses and sentence construction. Incorporating more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
