Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Manager,
I am writing to request you to search for the document file that I left in your hotel last week on Friday during the conference.
As I vividly remember, I always keep my belongings with me. Last week when I was here I kept that file with me all the time however, when I went to the dinning hall I sat on the left corner table and left it on the chair. After that I got busy and forgot to take my file.
My company is dealing with elite investors for our new project therefore, It contains confidential information regarding my organization as well as our clients. Breech in the confidentiality would be a huge loss.
I request you a thorough check of dinning area in your personal supervision to find my file considering criticalness of the situation.
I look forward to your prompt response on this issue.
Yours sincerely,
Sonam Prajapati

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identify the location of the papers (the dining hall chair), explain their importance (confidential project information), and state your request (a thorough search under personal supervision). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the urgency of the situation. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving from the purpose of the letter to the details of the incident, the explanation of importance, and finally the call to action. Cohesive devices such as 'however', 'therefore', and 'after that' are used to link sentences effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the flow of information is smooth and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message with precision. Phrases like 'vividly remember', 'confidential information', and 'prompt response' are used effectively. There are a few minor spelling or word-choice errors, such as 'dinning' instead of 'dining' and 'Breech' instead of 'Breach'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the score from reaching the highest band. Overall, the vocabulary is appropriate for the formal context of the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are some minor errors, such as 'I request you a thorough check' (should be 'I request that you conduct a thorough check') and 'It contains' (the 'I' should not be capitalized mid-sentence). Despite these occasional slips, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding. The punctuation is generally accurate, and the formal tone is maintained throughout.
