Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to inform about a piece of crucial document that I forgot at your hotel in my previous visit.
I have booked your hotel for my business meeting on August 2nd, your team allocated us the room number C89 for our conference meeting and it was completed with an hour after that hotel manager asked me to visit a reception area for payment. I remembered that I putted client agreement at the desk, just to make payment but I forgot to take it with me as I was in rush to take a flight.
It is extremely essential contract for my business and it contain various details about my customers and supply methods of my goods. In addition, I required to send that paper to my international client with in seven days. Apart from this, it also carry financial details about my deal.
I would be appreciate it if you assist me to receive back that document as early as possible even though I am ready to travel back to your hotel to grab that agreemet, for any quries you can contact me via email.
I look forward to receiving your prompt response
Yours faithfully,
Piyush.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state where the papers were left (on the desk in room C89), explain their importance (business contract with customer and financial details), and provide a clear request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more clearly in the opening sentence, as 'a piece of crucial document' is slightly vague. Overall, the response is well-focused and addresses the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Apart from this', and 'even though' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor mechanical errors in sentence structure, such as the transition between the meeting details and the payment process. The referencing is generally clear, and the letter follows a standard formal structure. To improve, ensure that transitions between sentences are smoother and avoid repetitive phrasing, which would help the progression of ideas feel more natural and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'crucial document', 'allocated', and 'prompt response'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'completed with an hour' (should be 'within an hour') and 'grab that agreement' (too informal for a business letter). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'quries' and 'agreemet'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary selection and careful proofreading. Expanding your range of formal business collocations would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I putted' (incorrect past tense of 'put'), 'it contain' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'I required to send' (should be 'I am required to send'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your grammatical control.
