Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to request you to send my documents to me which I forgot in the hotel room during my stay.
I stayed in your marriot hotel last week on 21st july to 23rd july at dundas street branch. I came there to attend meetings of my client. Moreover, when I left from the hotel after three days I unfortunately forget my contract documents in the room. For the safety purpose, I kept them in a double locker in the cupboard.
As I am a lawyer I need to protect my clients contract paper. Also for my next appointment I need those papers for signatures as soon as possible.
I would appreciate your help if you could send my documents on my following address, I will send delivery charge as well.
Thank you for the help and please let me know if you have any need other information.
Yours sincerely,
Prgati Nane

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the location of the papers (the hotel room cupboard), explained their importance (legal documents for a client), and stated your request for their return. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details, such as the room number or a more precise description of the folder, to help the staff locate the items more efficiently. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different points, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'As I am', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the information is organised coherently, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'contract documents' and 'delivery charge'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, you wrote 'forgot in the hotel room' instead of 'left in the hotel room', and 'send my documents on my following address' should be 'send my documents to the following address'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over common collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more formal business-related terms would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I unfortunately forget' (should be 'forgot' or 'left'), 'meetings of my client' (should be 'client meetings'), and 'do you have any need other information' (should be 'do you need any other information'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy would help you achieve a higher band.
