Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Mr Kapoor,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this latter to request you to find my important papers in your hotel, which I forgot to get back during the check-out time.

Last week, I stayed in your hotel for business meeting purpose. During my stay, first day I attended conferences in a meeting hall of the hotel and next day for personal discussion with one of my client in my room 402. However, I put valuable documents in the drawers of study table in my room and I forgot to take it while I was leaving the hotel. As those papers are so important to me, because it contains information regarding current ongoing project work and client's sign papers.

If I will not get it soon, it will makes me unable to complete current projects work and meet the deadlines. Moreover, it will damage my professional images and prove me irresponsible employee in front of my colleagues and senior office staff.

It would be appreciated it if you could enquire to lost and find counter regarding my papers. Also, ask to housekeeping staff, if they seen documents in my room. If you find my papers, please sent to me, I will provide you my home address and ready to pay the delivery charge.

I hope you consider my request and help me to overcome my problems. I look forward to your prompt response in this matter.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identified the location of the papers (the drawers of the study table in room 402), explained their importance regarding your ongoing project and deadlines, and provided clear instructions to the manager regarding the lost and found and potential delivery. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter, and the purpose is clear from the outset. The ideas are well-developed and the response is fully relevant to the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your request easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'If you find my papers', which help connect your ideas. To reach a higher band, ensure that transitions between sentences are more varied and avoid slightly repetitive phrasing when linking the importance of the documents to the potential consequences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'professional images', 'enquire', and 'consideration'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'business meeting purpose' (should be 'for business purposes') and 'client's sign papers' (should be 'signed client documents'). Additionally, there is a spelling error in the first sentence ('latter' instead of 'letter'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from being considered highly flexible or precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text. For example, 'If I will not get it soon, it will makes me' contains errors in conditional tense and subject-verb agreement (should be 'If I do not get them soon, it will make me'). There are also minor issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'in my room 402' (should be 'in room 402') and 'ask to housekeeping' (should be 'ask the housekeeping staff').
