Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the location of the papers, their importance, and the request for action. However, the development of these points is quite basic. For instance, the explanation of why the papers are important is repetitive and lacks detail, and the tone is somewhat informal for a formal letter to a hotel manager. While the task requirements are met, the response lacks the professional polish expected for a formal request. To improve, you should expand on the significance of the documents and use a more formal, polite tone throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into short paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the location of the papers and their importance is abrupt. There is a lack of linking words or phrases to connect ideas smoothly (e.g., using 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition'). The paragraphing is present, but the logical flow between sentences could be significantly improved to make the letter feel more cohesive and professional.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite simple and repetitive. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'very important' and 'I am not sure'. There are also some errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'unconvinent' (inconvenient), 'hopping' (hoping), and 'consern' (concern). While your meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors in spelling and collocation prevent a higher score. Expanding your range of formal vocabulary would greatly enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('I have left' instead of 'I left'), missing articles ('visit abroad' instead of 'visit abroad'), and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of the subject line format. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
