Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I hope you're doing great! Last weekend, I stayed at your hotel in room number 402.The purpose of writing this letter is I forgot some of my papers in the desk.
I have my next meeting with clients, so I prepare all of my data while staying in the hotel. The papers are related to my meeting and some of them are clients indentification. I prepared it on the study or working table beside the television. So, I think I left it in the drawers of table or might be under it.
It would be grateful if you can check it over there for me. I have meeting next Monday. If you are able to find it, please keep it with you and let me know via [redacted phone] or email me [redacted email] . I will take it from your hotel. Thank for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Kriti

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identify where the papers were left (the desk in room 402), explain their importance (upcoming client meeting and identification documents), and provide clear instructions to the manager regarding retrieval and contact methods. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'I hope you're doing great!' is slightly informal for a business context. The ideas are relevant and the purpose of the letter is immediately clear to the reader. To improve, ensure that the tone remains consistently formal throughout the entire piece.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving from the situation to the explanation and finally the request. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'So' and 'If you are able to', to link your thoughts. However, the paragraphing is somewhat compressed, and the flow could be improved by using more sophisticated transition words or phrases to connect sentences. The referencing is generally clear, and the reader can easily follow the narrative of the events described.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'time and consideration' and 'purpose of writing' are appropriate for this task. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'I forgot some of my papers in the desk' (should be 'left') and 'clients indentification' (should be 'client identification'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band. Focusing on more precise collocations and ensuring correct word forms will help elevate your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I have my next meeting... so I prepare' (tense inconsistency), 'It would be grateful' (should be 'I would be grateful'), and 'I will take it from your hotel' (should be 'collect'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing spaces after periods. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over verb tenses and prepositions will improve your accuracy.
