Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state where you believe the papers were left (room 212, cupboard or table), explain their importance regarding a project deadline, and request that the manager contact you. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it lacks some of the conventional politeness markers expected in professional correspondence. To improve, ensure you provide a more cohesive explanation of the situation and use more formal language to request assistance, rather than simply stating what you want the manager to do.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized, with a clear beginning, middle, and end. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is presented as a single block of text, which makes it harder to follow. While you use some cohesive devices like 'I am writing this letter regarding' and 'I am looking forward to', the transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'That are my business related paper', which creates a slight disconnect. Improving the use of linking words and separating your ideas into distinct paragraphs would significantly enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite limited and repetitive. You rely on simple descriptors such as 'big loss' and 'big issue', which lack precision. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'forgot that papers' instead of 'left those papers' and 'no second copy is saved' instead of 'no backup exists'. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary does not demonstrate the flexibility or sophistication required for a higher band score. Expanding your repertoire to include more formal, business-appropriate terminology would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently omit articles (e.g., 'in cupboard or on table') and struggle with subject-verb agreement and pronoun usage (e.g., 'That are my business related paper'). The capitalization of 'i' is consistently incorrect throughout the letter. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To reach a higher band, you should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles, pluralization, and standard capitalization rules, while attempting to vary your sentence structures with more complex clauses.
