Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to bring your attention towards the papers that I forgot during my recent visit, last Sunday.
I think I left the papers in my bedroom, in the table drawer, when I was struggling with packaging at the last moment. I remember that I had lot of clothes and things to pack which I bought for my family members and relatives. Taking care of all items I think I forgot to keep my important papers with me.
These documents are not only important for my personal life but also needed for professional life. I left my document file there including, passport, driving license and health card. These documents are very useful for my routine life, because they take long time to apply and renew them.
I want to request that if anyone from your staff find my documents, then it would be helpful to keep them carefully. I would appreciate if anyone from your staff can let me know whenever have any update about my documents, I would also give some bit of money as a reward.
Thank you for your time and understanding. I look forward for your quick response.
Yours faithfully,
Manisha.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly identify the location of the papers (the bedroom table drawer), explain their importance (passport, license, and health card are essential for daily life and difficult to replace), and provide a clear request for the manager to assist in locating them. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'These documents' and 'I would also', to link ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition'). While the paragraphing is sufficient, the transition between the explanation of the importance of the documents and the request for help is slightly abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some specific terms like 'documents', 'passport', and 'renew'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'bring your attention towards' (should be 'to') and 'struggling with packaging' (should be 'packing'). The phrase 'give some bit of money' is also slightly informal and unnatural for a professional letter. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise and sophisticated vocabulary related to lost property and formal requests.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I forgot during my recent visit' (missing object), 'I had lot of' (missing article 'a'), and 'whenever have any update' (missing subject 'I'). Additionally, 'I look forward for' should be 'I look forward to'. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. Increasing your control over articles and prepositions will help improve your accuracy.
