Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing in concern of some important documents which I forget in your hotel roomduring my stay.
I stayed in your hotel for 2 days and i am in the city for some professional meetings. I came late at night and checked out early in the morning because I had a flight at 6am. Between all the hassle, I forget some of files on the table, which is beside the TV. These documents are very essential for me, as i have all my financial data, essential notes, and requirements of the clients written in them. If I would not get those files back, my whole trip was a waste of time and our company might lose a contract as well. This could also effect my job and future career progression.
I request you to ask the housekeeping staff about the files. If you found those documents, please courier them to me via express shipping. I will pay the charges for the courier service.
Thanks you for considering my request. I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
James Bond

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly identified the location of the papers (on the table beside the TV), explained their importance (financial data and client requirements), and provided a clear request for action (checking with housekeeping and couriering them). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Between all the hassle' and 'If you found those documents', which help link your ideas. However, the transition between the first and second paragraph could be smoother. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'professional meetings', 'financial data', and 'career progression' are used correctly. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and tense usage, such as 'I am writing in concern of' (should be 'concerning') and 'I forget' (should be 'forgot'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses, such as 'I forget' instead of 'forgot' and 'If I would not get' instead of 'If I do not get'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as 'i' instead of 'I' and 'roomduring'. While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your request. Focusing on consistent tense usage and proofreading for small mechanical errors will help improve your score.
