Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
i am writing this letter to inform you about my leftover documents in your hotel two days ago.
I had a business meeting nearby your hotel so, i stayed there for two days. Due to the another international meeting , i had to leave your hotel in hustle and as a consequence, i forget to carry my important papers from the cabinet of my room.
It has a big file including my personal certificates such as educational degrees , work permit or identity records , and some significant business papers which i use on daily basis .
it will be really appreciated if your staff will assist me to find it out and please keep it safe as long as i will come there to receive. Otherwise , i will share my current address to mail my documents.
I am looking forward to your prompt response.
Your sincerely ,
Harinder kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state where the papers were left (the cabinet in your room), explain their importance (personal certificates and business documents), and provide instructions for the manager. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the development of ideas is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the specific nature of the business papers to make the urgency more convincing. However, the task requirements are fully met, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'due to', 'as a consequence', and 'otherwise' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is slightly disjointed; the transition between the explanation of the documents and the request for assistance could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is a bit repetitive. While the overall progression is clear and the message is easy to follow, more varied cohesive devices would improve the flow and help you achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'international meeting', 'certificates', and 'prompt response'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'leftover documents' (which sounds like food) and 'forget to carry' (where 'forgot' would be grammatically correct). You also use 'in hustle', which is not a standard idiomatic expression. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage to move into the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, you use 'i' instead of the capitalized 'I', and there are issues with verb tense consistency, such as 'i forget' instead of 'I forgot' and 'as long as i will come' instead of 'as long as I come'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic punctuation rules will significantly improve your accuracy.
