Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this mail finds you and it is very important which require your attention. Two days ago I stayed in your Castle hotel and it was my great experience.
The reason why I am writing mail is while checking out, by mistake I forgot my job offer letter in the room. Most probably on the TV table. This letter is very important for me because it has a barcode on it and without it I can’t access to my company profile. I have to upload few documents on my account before the end of this week.
I tried to connect your receptionist but I didn't get any update. I am requesting you to please check out with janitors and other staff members might be someone found it and keep it secure place.
I want this papers as soon as possible. If you get any lead please send me mail or reply on this mail. Luckily I am not that far living from your hotel so please give me call and I will come personally to pick it up.
Thank you so much for your time and I believe that you will try your best.
Warm regards,
Aryan Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state where the papers were left (on the TV table), explain their importance (access to a company profile), and provide a clear request for action. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening is slightly awkward. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is immediately clear to the reader. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing salutations are perfectly aligned with the prompt's requirements and standard formal conventions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. There is a clear progression of ideas from the situation to the request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. Phrases like 'The reason why I am writing' and 'I am requesting you to' are functional but repetitive. The transition between sentences could be smoother; for instance, the connection between the receptionist's lack of response and the request to check with janitors is a bit abrupt. Improved use of linking words would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'access to my company profile' and 'personally to pick it up'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'I tried to connect your receptionist' should be 'I tried to contact your receptionist', and 'I want this papers' should be 'I would like these papers'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over common collocations and pluralization.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'it is very important which require your attention' (should be 'which requires') and 'I can’t access to my company profile' (the verb 'access' does not take 'to'). Additionally, there are minor issues with articles and subject-verb agreement, such as 'I want this papers'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of prepositions.
