Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this mail finds you and it is very important which require your attention. Two days ago I stayed in your Castle hotel and it was my great experience.
The reason why I am writing mail is while checking out, by mistake I forgot my job offer letter in the room. Most probably on the TV table. This letter is very important for me because it has a barcode on it and without it I can’t access to my company profile. I have to upload few documents on my account before the end of this week.
I tried to connect your receptionist but I didn't get any update. I am requesting you to please check out with janitors and other staff members might be someone found it and keep it secure place. I want this papers as soon as possible. If you get any lead please send me mail or reply on this mail.
Luckily I am not that far living from your hotel so please give me call and I will come personally to pick it up. Thank you so much for your time and I believe that you will try your best.
Warm regards,
Aryan Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly identified the location of the papers (on the TV table), explained their importance (access to a company profile/barcode), and provided a clear request for action. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a hotel manager. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening is more professional; for example, 'I hope this mail finds you' is slightly informal and grammatically incomplete. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'The reason why I am writing' and 'Luckily', to guide the reader. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'I want this papers', where the determiner does not match the noun. The progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated to achieve a higher score. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some specific terms like 'barcode', 'company profile', and 'receptionist'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'connect your receptionist' (should be 'contact') and 'check out with janitors' (should be 'check with'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage. Expanding your range of formal expressions would help elevate the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'it is very important which require your attention' (subject-verb agreement), 'I can’t access to my company profile' (unnecessary preposition), and 'I want this papers' (plural/singular mismatch). Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'I am not that far living from your hotel'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your request, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the text.
