Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
Krupaben Brahmbhatt here, I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my concern regarding something very important that I lost. I stayed in a room no. 38 of your hotel. It was August 20,2026. could you please help me to find red file.
In addition, I put it on the table which is in the left corner. It is a red file with some paperwork. I have worked hard to get it and arrange it. My presentation is tomorrow. I know it is very hard for you and your staff to have a look if there is any residence in it.
If you can find it, could you please mind to sent me an E-mail, you can just attach scanned document and I am gonna come there to get the original one later after a week may be.
Thank you very much for your understanding and your valuable time. Looking forward to get your response.
Regards,
Krupa.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state where the papers were left (room 38, on the table), explain their importance (a presentation tomorrow), and provide instructions to the manager (email a scan). However, the tone is somewhat inconsistent for a formal letter, and the request for the manager to check for 'residence' is unclear and slightly confusing. While the task is fulfilled, the development of ideas could be more professional to better suit the context of a formal request to a hotel manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'If you can find it'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The transition between the introduction and the body could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the phrasing 'I am gonna come there' is too informal for this type of correspondence, which affects the overall professional coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly, such as 'express my concern' and 'valuable time'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'residence' (likely meaning 'evidence' or 'belongings') and the use of 'gonna', which is inappropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more precise vocabulary and avoid colloquialisms. The spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical control is limited to basic, functional language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing this letter to express my concern regarding something very important that I lost' (a bit wordy) and 'could you please mind to sent me' (incorrect verb form after 'mind'). Punctuation is generally okay, but there are minor errors like 'August 20,2026' (missing space). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your request, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing.
